Everton transfer update on Rodriguez

Some Everton fans have been left to fume as a transfer update emerged on James Rodriguez.

Speaking to Sports Blog (via Marca), football journalist Javier Hernandez Bonnet has claimed that the Colombia international has the option of returning back to Real Madrid and reuniting with Carlo Ancelotti on a free transfer.

Rodriguez was such a key player for the Goodison Park faithful in the 2020/21 season, scoring six goals and making a further nine assists in 26 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt), and so it would be such a shame to see him leave after just one campaign, especially given that he largely played without supporters in the stadiums.

Nonetheless, to lose the 29-year-old for free would be a devastating blow, as he would not be easy to replace without spending a bit of cash.

Fry surprised at lack of interest in NUFC

Mike Ashley has long wanted to get out of Newcastle United and with every potential buyer coming from outside of the region, Barry Fry is surprised nobody from the North East has tried to buy the club.

The closes that people linked to the region have come to buying out Ashley was with the latest takeover backed by PIF as the Reuben Brothers were set to have a 10% stake in the club and despite residing out of the area, they own several properties as well as the racecourse in Newcastle.

After The Times revealed that their wealth had increased by £5 billion in the last 12 months despite there being a global pandemic, people questioned why they won’t buy Newcastle United by themselves.

It would be a great day for Newcastle fans if the Reuben Brothers or anyone bought out Ashley and Fry admits he is surprised nobody closer to the club has tried to take it off the current owner’s hands as he exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:

“It’s been up for sale two or three years now and nobody has touched it. So what I can’t understand, because the Geordies are so passionate and committed about their club, I just can’t understand if they’ve got wealth in their city, so to speak, why somebody doesn’t buy the club.

“The fanbase is amazing and if you’re a businessman, then the fans will buy shirts, even when they’re skint, they will buy everything because they just live for Newcastle. So I am very surprised that the wealthy people in and around the North East haven’t come in and tried to buy it off Mike.”

Steve Bruce and the fans will be hoping a takeover goes through sooner rather than later because the club will not be able to keep out of the relegation zone if they only have £10 million to spend every season, something Bruce will have to deal with this year.

Having just £10 million to spend may have put a stop to Bruce’s plans to sign Joe Willock from Arsenal on a permanent basis with the Gunners looking for a bid minimum of £20 million.

Carlton Palmer rules out Slaven Bilic returning to West Brom

Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer has completely ruled out Slaven Bilic returning to the Hawthorns as manager.

The Croatian was appointed as Baggies boss almost exactly two years ago following their failure to get promoted back to the Premier League under both Darren Moore and then caretaker James Shan.

But Bilic did achieve exactly that, securing a top-two finish on the final day of the 2019-2020 campaign after drawing with Queens Park Rangers.

However, Bilic endured a tricky start to life in the Premier League, with West Brom taking just two points from their opening nine matches despite splashing the cash on the likes of Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant last summer.

Bilic’s Baggies would eventually collect their first victory at the tenth time of asking, before picking up an impressive draw at Manchester City last December.

Less than 24 hours later, though, the former West Ham manager was sacked from his post after just 18 months at the helm despite West Brom sitting just two points from safety.

Six months later, the Baggies are looking to appoint another manager after Sam Allardyce left last month following their relegation back to the Championship.

But Palmer told Football FanCast that there’s no chance Bilic would return:

“Bilic won’t go back there. There is no chance. I know Slaven, and I know what he’s like as a bloke, and he’s a very stand-up guy.

“You can’t treat somebody how they treated him and expect him to come back to the club, that would never happen.”

Pundit says Chris Wood would score plenty at Villa - Exclusive

Steve Howey reckons that Chris Wood would score even more goals should he sign for Aston Villa.

The New Zealand striker is on the back of another impressive campaign in Burnley colours – scoring 12 Premier League goals to not only help keep the Clarets in the league, but to continue his record of having returned double figures in every season at this level.

Wood had only managed four goals in his opening 19 appearances but hit red-hot form by netting eight goals across an eight-game spell between March and May, including a treble in Burnley’s fine win at Wolves.

Such is Wood’s goalscoring exploits for the struggling Clarets, he’s been linked with some bigger sides in the shape of Everton and Aston Villa, whilst he’s also on West Ham’s radar.

All three of those possess far more creative players than Burnley, with Jack Grealish perhaps the best of which at Villa.

And Howey exclusively told Football FanCast that Wood could top his goalscoring tally from this year should he end up at Villa Park this summer:

“He’s awkward to play against. If I’m being critical, not the best at holding the ball up, but very good at flicking on and gets his goals. Strikers that score goals, the amount that he’s scored in the Premier League, is a good striker.

“And if he goes to a team that are more creative, he could get a lot of goals.”

Everton fans on Kean transfer update

Loads of Everton fans have been left to rage as a transfer update emerged on Moise Kean.

As per L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), the Italy international has been house-hunting in Paris, hoping that he can stay at PSG on a permanent deal from Goodison Park.

Talks are reportedly ongoing between the two parties, but Kean’s valuation is quoted to be €25-€30m (£21.6-26m), which seems very low considering the season that he has had, in which he scored no fewer than 17 goals in 41 games in total over all competitions in the 2020/21 term (Transfermarkt).

Considering that he is still just 21 years of age, and that he is currently valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, the Merseyside club would surely be wanting to get a lot more money if they decided to sell him, or hold on until more is offered perhaps from a rival bidder.

These Toffees supporters raged as the transfer update was shared on Twitter:

“They having a laugh?! thinking we should sell for that much! That’s actually a loss…. we paid more to get him, his contract has 4 years left And he’s their second top scorer, still young, a high prospect and inform. They’re PSG, not like they don’t have the funds”

Sheffield United asked too much of Brewster

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Sheffield United striker Brian Deane believes his old side were asking too much of Rhian Brewster.

Chris Wilder looked to build on a great 2019/20 Premier League season by signing Brewster in a club-record deal from Liverpool, expecting the young English forward to fire his team to more success.

However, Brewster has really struggled, failing to find the back of the net in English football’s top flight since his arrival at Bramall Lane during the last summer transfer window.

Given that Brewster is still just 21 years of age with little experience at this level, though, Deane feels there was too much expectation placed on his shoulders.

Discussing the England U21 international in an exclusive interview with FFC, Deane said:

“£20m for Rhian Brewster in the Premier League is a hell of a lot of money. It’s a lot of money and then what are you asking a 20-year-old kid to do in the Premier League against very well-established, highly-motivated athletes, defenders?

“You know, what is going to make this kid who has done very well in the Championship… how are you going to guarantee that he makes that leap into the Premier League?”

In that 2019/20 season in the Championship, Brewster scored 11 times in 22 appearances and helped Swansea City to reach the play-offs. Taking that into account, the former Liverpool man could be a really good option for Sheffield United next term.

Claim dropped on potential NUFC takeover

Noel Whelan has dropped a big claim on the potential takeover of Newcastle United after HMRC ceased their investigations into the club.

The Lowdown: HMRC drop investigations

On Thursday, it was confirmed that HMRC are discontinuing their investigation into the taxes of the St. James’ Park faithful.

It now means that there is more clarity in the North East for any potential new owners who are looking to take over the Tyneside club, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium.

The Latest: Takeover path may be cleared

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan, who is now a pundit after a stellar footballing career playing for the likes of Leeds United and Coventry City, has claimed that the clarity may open the door for fresh takeover interest:

“Now that’s out of the way, it’s a massive plus for the football club.

“Also for any potential takeover and the buyers. It’s something that was hindering people from coming forward and wanting to buy the club.

“It opens the door for people to come in and table bids, and that’s what I expect now there’s clarity in the football club.

“The sooner someone takes over and Mike Ashley gets what he wants, the quicker they can start rebuilding.

“Newcastle deserves an owner who will look after it. Someone who will put money into it and take it back to the glory days.

“The days of David Ginola, Philippe Albert and Tino Asprilla. The shackles need to come off.”

The Verdict: HMRC conclusion can only be a positive

The conclusion of the HMRC investigation can only be a positive for the Magpies, as it does offer a lot more clarity to any potential bidders.

The investigation may have been a worry before hand, given that the Toon could well have lost a lot of money from it if it ended up going against them.

However, given that it has all been cleared up, NUFC can now focus on trying to push through a takeover of the club.

Nonetheless, they still have an arbitration case against the Premier League based on the failed bid by the KSA group, which could give an indication over what twists and turns this saga will take next.

Rodriguez out for Everton vs Man City

Many Everton fans have been left to bemoan some early team news ahead of their game away at Manchester City in the Premier League.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match against Pep Guardiola’s men, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that James Rodriguez will not be able to play any part.

It is a fixture that has a lot riding on it for the Goodison Park faithful as they look to sneak in with a chance of European qualification on the final day, but they will have to do it without their creative influence in Rodriguez against the newly-crowned champions.

The former Real Madrid ace has missed a large number of games already for the Merseyside club with various injury problems, and it seems as if a lot of Toffees supporters are growing increasingly frustrated with him.

Everton fans on early Team News

These Blues bemoaned the early Team News as it was shared on Twitter, with one even going as far as to claim that they were ‘fed up’:

“Simply not good enough from Rodriguez. We need him for this game. Why is he out now? If injury fair enough but what’s the reason? Fatigue isn’t good enough. Play through for one game, this is important and the club is paying your wages.”

Villa should play Aaron Ramsey amid Barkley news

With reports emerging that Aston Villa have decided against signing Ross Barkley on a permanent deal this summer, Dean Smith must surely consider giving Aaron Ramsey a chance to shine in the first-team.

Amid a disappointing campaign on loan at Villa Park, it’s now being suggested that Smith’s side will wave goodbye to Barkley at the end of the season, thus opening the door for a new number ten to come through.

And in the 18-year-old Ramsey, Villa have got a superb talent on their hands.

Smith described him and his brother Jacob as “two talented players who we believe have a lot of potential”, with Aaron actually even captaining England’s U17 side previously.

The Athletic revealed that he’s more of a “fiery character” than Jacob, with one source saying he “wears his heart on his sleeve”. With the likes of Grealish, and even more recently Louie Barry, Villa have got a couple of outstanding academy break-outs.

According to England’s U17s coach Kevin Betsy, one of Ramsey’s strong points is his leadership qualities.

He said: “Aaron deserved the armband because of his performances for his club and his character around the place. We try to develop leaders across our pathway… but you can’t just talk about it and say ‘be a leader’. We have to give them the opportunity to do it and feel it on the grass. Aaron was given that opportunity.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-aston-villa-transfer-rumours-and-news-copy-copy” title=”Latest Aston Villa transfer rumours and news”]

Bringing the younger Ramsey into the fold, just when his older brother is beginning to make his mark – Jacob’s played 15 times in the Premier League already this season – would help kick-start a new era at Villa Park.

The likes of Barry, the two Ramsey’s and even players like Kaine Kesler and Carney Chukwuemeka are all knocking on the door for a first-team opportunity.

But with Barkley set to go, it’s Aaron who could ensure Villa’s burgeoning academy takes their chance to impress.

Meanwhile, Dean Smith must finally unleash this “outstanding” talent…
