MCFC: Fans react to interest in Ings

Numerous fans of Manchester City have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relayed a report that claims City are interested in signing Danny Ings this summer.

According to the report by Sky Sports, with Sergio Aguero’s future at City being a “major doubt” due to the 32-year-old’s contract expiring at the end of the season, identifying the Argentine’s replacement has become one of Pep Guardiola’s “top priorities” prior to the summer transfer window.

As a result, the Premier League leaders have been linked with Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Erling Haaland. However, with clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea also thought to be keen on a move for the 20-year-old, Sky Sports claimed that City have identified Ings as a “more attainable” option.

After City Xtra relayed this report on Twitter, many fans of Manchester City flocked to have their say on the matter, with plenty seeming furious at the prospect of their club targeting the Southampton striker instead of Haaland.

So, what exactly did these Manchester City fans have to say in reaction to the report regarding their club’s interest in Danny Ings?

“Typical Txiki. We will not sign Haaland with that kind of mentality. Remember Boateng, Toure, Silva, Aguero and co. – it was Gary Cooks who did that. Txiki doesn’t have the skill, except paying the release clause on signing players from that statue. Yeah, we will get Ings.”

@Achillaes

“Pain.”

@KAgueroooooo

“No please, if we can’t get Haaland then go get Daka.”

@obialo_

“If Ings is what we bring in to replace Aguero I’m done.”

@MattHarl42

“No offence to Ings, but please tell me this is a joke.”

@Kellyite786

“This is a joke.”

@Reaganholness8

“This is a serious joke, right? How old is Haaland? Do we need to pool old guards, like really?”

@KatsandeA

“Get in the bin.”

PSG eye second Kean loan from Everton

Marcel Brands must not entertain Paris Saint-Germain targeting a second loan spell for Everton striker Moise Kean this summer.

What’s the word?

According to ESPN, PSG Sporting Director Leonardo is expected to target free agents and loan deals during the next off-season with funds likely to be tight at Le Parc des Princes.

The Ligue 1 giants have been hit as hard as any other club by the coronavirus pandemic, and will pursue deals for soon-to-be free-agents such as Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, Olympique Lyonnais striker Memphis Depay and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

PSG also hope to strike a deal with Everton to retain Kean beyond his season-long loan, but could be forced to push for a second temporary spell which this time features an option to buy.

Kean moved to the French capital in October in a deal that does not include any purchase clauses, optional or obligatory, and Everton are expected to demand around £70m to part with the former Juventus forward at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

The striker endured a troubled debut year at Goodison Park having only managed to score two goals in 33 games across all competitions, while also being the subject of Marco Silva’s wrath after arriving late for a team meeting.

But he has turned things around in Paris, netting 15 times and providing one assist in 27 appearances, while Mauricio Pochettino has lauded the 20-year-old by noting: “We are very happy with everything he does.”

Should Everton loan Kean to PSG again?

If Leonardo cannot afford to match Everton’s demands for the sale of Kean to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Brands cannot entertain the Ligue 1 giants request for a second season on loan if the deal will only include an option to purchase in 2022.

Kean – who Silva described as a “clever boy” – is proving in France the threat that he can offer to Carlo Ancelotti back at Goodison Park next season, having hit goals against top and bottom tier opposition including FC Barcelona in the Champions League and OGC Nice in Ligue 1.

If those efforts still have not impressed Ancelotti, who oversaw both of Kean’s two Blues goals last season, then Everton must use his rejuvenated form to sell while the £53,000-per-week forward’s stock is at its highest and make profit on the £25m rising to £27.5m paid to Juventus.

The Toffees will likely need to reinvest any profit made from the Italy internationals’ departure to strengthen Ancelotti’s options in the off-season, with goals from centre-forwards other than top-scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin thin and far between this term.

Joshua King is yet to score in royal blue after four appearances following his deadline day arrival, and needs to impress if the Merseyside club are to take up their option to keep the summer free-agent on a longer-term deal.

Only two of Richarlison’s 10 goals in all competitions this term have come through the centre, as well, with the Brazilian most lethal when fielded on the wing and able to cut inside onto his favoured right-foot.

Cenk Tosun may have scored twice since re-joining Besiktas on loan last month, but only hit home once in seven outings for Everton this term following cruciate ligament surgery and is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

Ancelotti cannot rely on King or Tosun, in particular, providing Calvert-Lewin with competition next term. So, if Kean is not the answer, Everton must sell or guarantee funds for the forward this summer.

Wednesday: Fans discuss absentees

Many Sheffield Wednesday fans have been discussing the club following a tweet about absentees by journalist Dom Howson.

Howson reported that the Owls could be without nine players through injury and suspension in their next Championship game. It doesn’t get any harder for them as they face league leaders Norwich.

The Owls are currently on a torrid run as they have lost their last five games and are now seven points from safety (SofaScore).

The problems are mounting up for new manager Darren Moore, and it really looks like he has joined a sinking ship which seems to be heading for League One sooner rather than later. Perhaps in hindsight the Owls boss might have stayed with Doncaster Rovers, who are battling for promotion in that division.

If Wednesday can get anything from the game against Norwich, it should be a huge morale booster and could turn around their season, but Moore needs things to start changing quickly.

Here’s how some SWFC fans reacted to Howson’s update about the spate of absentees:

Here is how Owls fans reacted to the news:

“The ones who aren’t injured Dom won’t bother turning up either. You would think they’d be playing for the futures at the very least. Most not good enough, all not giving 100% which is indefensible!”

WBA enter talks for Yokuslu

According to Okay Yokuslu’s agent Batur Altiparmak, West Bromwich Albion have entered talks to sign the Turkey international on loan this month.

Baggies eye Yokuslu

The Baggies have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old midfielder (The Daily Mail), and it now seems they have stepped up their pursuit of the former Trabzonspor man.

Altiparmak has told AS that the Hawthorns outfit are in talks to sign Yokuslu on loan until the end of the season.

Matic-like midfielder

Yokuslu has been somewhat of a bit-part player for Celta Vigo, his current club, so far this campaign – he has played just 410 minutes in La Liga (Transfermarkt). However, with 28 caps for Turkey, he clearly has plenty of experience, and could therefore be an interesting option for Sam Allardyce.

Upon his transfer from Trabzonspor to Vigo in 2018, £3.6m-valued Yokuslu (Transfermarkt) compared himself to Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic (Fotomac via Stretty News). Indeed, when comparing the two on WhoScored, their stats are rather similar. Throughout his career, Yokuslu has averaged 2.2 tackles and 1.9 interceptions, while Matic’s numbers stand at 2.4 and 1.7 respectively.

The latter has won four league titles – three Premier Leagues with Chelsea and one title with Benfica in Portugal. Were Yokuslu to have anything like the impact Matic has had in the English top flight, West Brom would be signing a top player.

Predicted West Brom XI vs Fulham - team & injury news

For West Brom, the next few weeks could prove pivotal in their bid for Premier League survival.

Sam Allardyce’s men face five of their relegation rivals, starting with Fulham, who they welcome to the Hawthorns this afternoon.

The Cottagers sit merely two points above Albion in the standings and could go five clear with a victory in this crunch match.

If the Midlands side doesn’t pick up points in these sorts of matches, then the writing might as well already be on the wall as it’s hard to envisage any way back.

Today’s game is that cliched six-pointer – a must-win. Even in January, so it’s important for Big Sam to get his team selection spot on.

Here’s the starting Baggies XI we’re predicting…

There could be as many as four changes from the side that was walloped 5-0 by league leaders Manchester City in midweek.

Those five goals took West Brom’s home defensive record under Allardyce to a woeful zero goals scored and 17 goals conceded, at least the supporters haven’t been in attendance to witness that.

It would be wise to shore up that backline, so we may well see the inclusion of Sam Field in a defensive midfield role.

That’s one of two changes in the engine room as 20-year-old Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher returns to the side having not featured against City at all.

The pair will partner Matheus Pereira, who is deployed in a slightly more advanced position through the middle.

It means that both Romaine Sawyers and skipper Jake Livermore are axed as they probably should be, considering the duo rank as the worst two players per WhoScored average ratings.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-this-weeks-latest-west-brom-news-and-transfer-rumours” title=”Read this week’s latest West Brom news, transfer rumours and more…”]

Defensively, there isn’t much Big Sam can do given his options but after a disappointing showing from young Dara O’Shea, we could see Kyle Bartley return.

He was potentially rested with this fixture in mind having only just returned from injury in the last couple of weeks.

He’ll partner Semi Ajayi with Kieran Gibbs and Darnell Furlong keeping their places on either flank.

Whilst in the attack, both Robert Snodgrass and Karlan Grant survive, though Allardyce may want to bring the experience of Matty Phillips back into the fold over Callum Robinson, who has failed to score or assist since September.

Exclusive: Newcastle should have signed Southampton’s Danny Ings, claims Rob Lee

Former England international Rob Lee, while speaking exclusively with FootballFanCast, has expressed his regret over Newcastle United not signing Danny Ings when the Southampton striker left Liverpool.

Ings endured a turbulent three-year spell at Anfield, a time was consistently plagued by serious injuries, restricting the 28-year-old to just 25 appearances across all competitions.

Lee believes the three-time England international has been a “revelation” since joining Southampton on an initial loan deal in 2018, which the St. Mary’s natives turned permanent for £20million after a successful debut season.

Ings struck seven goals in 24 Premier League games as he established himself on the south coast, and has truly kicked on since with 22 goals last term as he contested each top-flight fixture.

Lee lauds Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl for putting himself in the line of fire by signing Ings, who is among the Premier League’s top-scorers this season with six in eight appearances ahead of Southampton hosting Sheffield United on Sunday.

“Danny Ings, I was desperate for Newcastle to buy Danny Ings. He put his head on the block, he went and got him, and he’s been a revelation, an England player,” Lee told FootballFanCast.

Only Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy struck more Premier League goals last season than Ings, with the Foxes ace securing the Golden Boot with a 23-goal haul. But it was the Saints star who proved to be the most important striker in the competition, with his 22-goals accounting for a league-high 43% contribution rate.

Newcastle struggled for league goals last term with midfielder Jonjo Shelvey ending the campaign with a Toon-high six to his name, edging strikers Dwight Gayle (four) and Joelinton (two).

Steve Bruce sought to solve the Magpies’ lack of firepower in the off-season with the addition of ex-Bournemouth hitman Callum Wilson, who has lashed home a team-high seven in nine league appearances since completing a £20m move.

AND in other news, Mike Ashley’s January transfer stance could see Newcastle miss out on a £30m gem compared to Alan Shearer.

West Brom: Fans react to Filip Krovinovic update

West Bromwich Albion fans have been reacting to the news that Filip Krovinovic is set to leave the Baggies this month to move to PAOK in Greece.

Krovinovic is currently on loan at the Hawthorns from Benfica in Portugal. The former Croatia U21 international also spent last term with the Midlands outfit and played an important role in the team’s promotion, scoring three times and providing four assists in 40 matches in the Championship.

This term, though, he has failed to contribute to a single strike in 11 games, and he has not yet been included in the starting XI by Sam Allardyce. As such, according to Record, he is set to move to Greece, with Allardyce seemingly happy to let him go.

The news has attracted plenty of attention from the Baggies supporters, and it is fair to say that they are not best pleased by this development. They took to social media platform Twitter in response to a post relaying this news to share their thoughts.

Rangers: Fans baffled by club-branded kilt

Glasgow Rangers fans are far from happy with the latest accessory from the club – a Gers-branded kilt.

As is the case with any club, the Ibrox outfit have released a whole host of products recently in an attempt to bring in more revenue to the club. Their partnership with Castore has seen the Liverpool-based company release a number of clothing options. One particular hoodie had a retail price of £170 – that did not go down well with the Rangers fans.

The tartan design on this latest release was decided after over 10,000 MyGers members voted, and was revealed by the club’s official account on Twitter. However, whilst many clearly liked it, there are plenty of others who were not happy – some made it clear they preferred the previous offering.

In a bid to share their discontent, the fans took to the social media platform to show their thoughts.

West Ham fans hail Balbuena after Man United loss %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Flocking to Twitter, plenty of West Ham United fans saw fit to lavish ‘unsung hero’ Fabian Balbuena with praise despite the Hammers eventually capitulating to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Man United – with Irons fans going on to laud his ‘excellent’ display.

Balbuena, who has been a pivotal figure for David Moyes this season, replacing the absentee Issa Diop to great effect, attracted even more praise from supporters after what was a solid outing regardless of the circumstances.

Tomas Soucek fired the Hammers into a lead, feeding off Declan Rice’s headed lay off – a lead which Moyes’ side deserved after their domination of the first period.

However, after a sensational strike by Paul Pogba to draw United level, which shouldn’t have stood after the ball appeared to go out of play in the build up, West Ham couldn’t quite recover.

Goals from Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford eventually sealed all three points for the travelling side, but despite the loss, these supporters still heaped praise on Balbuena for his performance.

Leeds should go back for Buendia rather than chasing Cantwell

Leeds United may have spent almost £100m since the end of last season, but their transfer spending may not be over yet.

Indeed, the Whites’ interest in Todd Cantwell has been highly-publicised over the past few weeks, and the Yorkshire club have apparently re-opened talks with Norwich over that move this week.

However, we can’t help but feel that United are after the wrong Norwich City player.

The Whites had previously been linked with Emi Buendia, and if we’re being honest, that seems like a signing that makes a lot more sense.

Now, we aren’t saying that Cantwell isn’t a fantastic player, but everything points towards Buendia being a better fit for Leeds.

The Argentine was one of the most potent chance creators in the division last season, ranking only behind Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold on that metric.

Some suspect finishing from his teammates, Cantwell included, saw him finish with just seven assists, and while that isn’t a bad total, his chances created numbers suggest it would’ve been a lot higher if not for his teammates’ failings.

Leeds will need a player like this eventually as Pablo Hernandez is closing in on his 36th birthday, and with Buendia able to play both down the right and through the middle, he could be Hernandez’s successor at Elland Road. to make things even better, he’s already proven in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s comments on him last season show just how talented he is, as the German was toying with the idea of describing him as world-class.

“When I think about his ability to assist, he is already there with seven. It is perhaps not world class on this level for a winger, but for our level it is top class and it is the best of all our players in these terms,” Farke said.

Leeds would be so much better off coughing up the cash for Buendia rather than meeting Norwich’s £20m asking price for Cantwell.
