However, they are set for further January incomings if the latest claims are to be believed.

News editor and journalist Alan Myers has taken to Twitter to confirm that Everton will be doing more business during the January transfer window following the capture of Patterson.

An Everton fan tweeted the journalist asking if he expected to see any more signings after the deal for the former Rangers whizz, with Myers responding: “Yes, and it depends on outs I’d suggest.”

The teaser comes as Benitez confirmed in his press conference ahead of last Sunday’s clash against Brighton that the club would be getting involved in the transfer window and pinpointed his intentions, saying: “We are working hard [to sign players]. At the same time, everyone knows how difficult the transfer window is in January, but we are still working hard to try and find some targets to improve the team.”

The Spaniard added: “We are trying to find the right players for positions not just for the present, but also for the future. I’m sure we will bring two or three players and we will bring the kind of players that want to be here, which is the main thing for me.”

It is understood that the manager would be taking a more active role in the transfer business during this window due to the unexpected resignation of Marcel Brands, who left Goodison Park a month ago over a rumoured conflict of opinion on the direction of the club.

Fans surely buzzing

Many Everton fans have made no secret of their anger and frustration towards Farhad Moshiri, and more so Benitez, when it comes to what they have seen on the pitch over the last six months. Sunday’s home defeat to Brighton witnessed the latest exhibition of disdain towards both the owner’s and the manager’s presence at the club.

One angry Toffees fan took to Twitter to reflect on the problems that Moshiri and Rafa have been creating from their perspective, saying: “Sleepwalking from one disaster to the next, 1 win in 12, clueless in possession, and tactically inept but Moshiri continues to sit on his hands and tell us it’ll all come good with Rafa. How long do we wait? #RafaOut”

Despite the awful results and performances which have left Everton with only five wins out of 19 league games so far this season, fans will likely be buzzing about the prospect of new signings who could potentially change the course of the club’s current campaign.

They might be just as happy about Myers’ claim of potential outgoings to allow scope for further arrivals, given how some of the current squad have been subjected to some rather stinging criticism from a number of fans over their less than stellar performances for the club.

The possibility of further additions this month could provide a welcome antidote to what has so far been a dreadful season for Everton and their supporters.

Corinthians e São Paulo conversam sobre a possibilidade de uma troca de jogadores para a temporada 2018. Em busca de lateral-esquerdo para o lugar de Guilherme Arana, negociado com o Sevilla (ESP), o Timão colocou em sua lista Júnior Tavares, do Tricolor, e para convencer o rival de uma troca ofereceu o atacante Lucca, que está emprestado à Ponte Preta até o fim deste ano.

A negociação, noticiada primeiro pelo jornalista Paulo Vinícius Coelho em seu blog no UOL, seria por empréstimo de um ano. Tavares tem contrato até junho de 2021 com o São Paulo, enquanto Lucca, até julho de 2019 com o Corinthians.

As conversas ainda são embrionárias, mas é fato que o atacante Lucca interessa ao técnico são-paulino Dorival Júnior. O treinador já indicou que pretende contar com pelo menos dois jogadores de beirada de campo, e Lucca se encaixa perfeitamente por também ter facilidade para marcar gols. Apesar do rebaixamento da Ponte, confirmado com a derrota deste domingo para o Atlético-PR, o atacante marcou 12 gols no Campeonato Brasileiro, sendo o quarto artilheiro, atrás de André do Sport (15), Henrique Dourado do Fluminense (18) e Jô do Corinthians (18).

Dorival, no entanto, não gostaria de abrir mão de Júnior Tavares e, embora respeite qualquer decisão da diretoria neste caso, reforçará essa posição. Nos últimos jogos, Tavares tem ficado na reserva de Edimar na lateral esquerda, e o Tricolor ainda terá o retorno de Reinaldo, emprestado à Chapecoense, para 2018. Porém, o técnico pensa em utilizar o jovem em outras posições, mais adiantado. Ele tem entrado na no meio de campo aberto pela esquerda, como uma espécie de ponta. Foi assim neste domingo na vitória por 2 a 1 sobre o Coritiba.

Já o técnico corintiano Fábio Carille passou uma lista de nomes para suprir a ausência de Arana. Reinaldo estava entre eles, mas não houve negociação com o São Paulo,, que pretende utilizá-lo em 2018. Uma alternativa foi propor essa troca com o rival. O argumento é de que, em baixa no Tricolor, Júnior poderia se valorizar com uma boa temporada no Timão. Carille também espera a contratação de dois pontas, mas Lucca não é prioridade.

É preciso saber também se os dois jogadores têm interessa na mudança. Na visão do Corinthians, não haveria problema com Lucca. Já o São Paulo ainda não tem posicionamento de Júnior Tavares até mesmo porque o assunto ainda não evoluiu.

Tahir, the Pakistan-born legspinner, was thought to have qualified for South Africa last April, but issues have arisen around his residency situation and it’s unclear when, or if, he will be able to start an international career.It is a messy affair for Cricket South Africa, who have been caught unawares by the latest development. There is even uncertainty over whether Tahir, who is married to a Durban woman, has spent enough time in South Africa over the last four years, or whether the problem stems from him not having a local passport.”To be honest, I’m not 100% sure,” Mickey Arthur, South Africa’s coach, said. “I think it’s something with Home Affairs and hopefully we will get some clarity on it over the next couple of days.”Although he was named in the 15-man squad for the Wanderers, Arthur said that Tahir had not been in line for a debut at the Wanderers, even before this situation arose. However, the management were keen to watch him ahead of the India tour next month, and haven’t given up hope of being able to include him on that trip.”We had him mind for down the line, we feel we need an attacking spinner because we go to India, then West Indies,” Arthur said. “He was the guy we had our eye on. I’m sure we can try and get something sorted at Home Affairs but he certainly wasn’t available for this Test.
