Pietersen undergoes scan on knee

Kevin Pietersen has had a precautionary scan on his troublesome right knee but remains available for selection for the final Ashes Test at The Oval

Kevin Pietersen has had a precautionary scan on his troublesome right knee but remains available for selection for the final Ashes Test at The Oval. The ECB said the scan was part of the “ongoing monitoring process” Pietersen has been undergoing since the batsman returned from the tour of New Zealand with bone bruising in his knee. The problem ruled him out of the final Test in Auckland and the return series against New Zealand as well as the Champions Trophy. The ECB statement added: “Kevin remains available for selection for the fifth Investec Ashes Test and will continue to receive treatment on his right knee as part of his rehabilitation programme over the course of remainder of the series and beyond.”With England 3-0 up in the Ashes there could be an opportunity to rest Pietersen even if, under other circumstances, he would be able to get through a Test, although Andy Flower, the team director, has already said he will be “fine”. Flower previously confirmed that Pietersen would not be available to Surrey for the Friends Life t20 finals day on Saturday.”He will be rested because of a couple of the niggles he has,” Flower said on Tuesday. “I have spoken with [Surrey’s interim coach] Alec Stewart about that. It would have been nice to have made him available but injuries have meant that he can’t be. We’re just resting his knee and calf.”He has played four Test matches now and this is an opportunity to rest. We try to be as fair to the counties as possible and you might have noticed over the last couple of years that we do try and get them back with their counties where we can. It possibly happens more often than it used to six or seven years go. But in this instance we can’t because of injury. He’ll be fine for The Oval.”Pietersen was an injury doubt for the third Test at Old Trafford having picked up a calf strain at Lord’s, but was passed fit and made a crucial 113 to help England avoid the follow-on and subsequently retain the Ashes in a rain-hit draw.Speaking after his innings, Pietersen said he was an “old man” now and, following the Test, Flower said that the batsman would have to take extra care about looking after himself during the latter stage of his career. “He’s in his early 30s – everything seems to hurt a bit more after long days and big innings,” Flower said.England will name their squad for the final Test on Saturday with the major decision being whether to rest James Anderson who has appeared jaded during the last couple of Tests. Graham Onions has suffered a broken finger which rules him out of contention but there could be a chance of Chris Tremlett, who has been part of the squad for the previous two Tests, being recalled on his home ground.

Rodolfo explica greve no Fluminense; Jean projeta Diego Souza no Botafogo

No dia seguinte, porém, a atividade aconteceu normalmente.

No Botafogo…

Vem pra ajudar – analisou.

They last visited India for a seven-match ODI series in October-November 2009, when they won 4-2 with the last match washed out in Mumbai.Schedule for limited-overs series

County season could begin overseas

County cricket could be played overseas as the ECB seek to ease fixture congestion during the English season.

County cricket could be played overseas as the ECB seek a radical solution to ease fixture congestion during the English season.ESPNcricinfo understands that, among a raft of proposals under consideration, the ECB has floated the idea of playing the first two rounds of the County Championship overseas, possibly as early as March, in a move that is designed to ease fixture congestion and avoid some of the early-season issues with the weather. This season started on painfully slow pitches and in uncomfortably cold conditions that did little for players or spectators. The Caribbean is one potential venue. Six teams travelled to Barbados this March for pre-season training and warm-up games and it is understood that several Caribbean nations would be delighted to host the counties and their travelling supporters. The UAE, where the MCC Champion County match has taken place for the last four seasons, and South Africa are other potential destinations. While the initial signs are that several counties are supportive of the idea, others are concerned about open rebellion from their members. It is probable that the value of a county membership would be reduced if counties offered fewer matches as part of the package. While subsidised travel to the overseas games may placate a few, for many it may prove too expensive. Whether the idea of better scheduling in more comfortable weather for the rest of the domestic season is adequate mitigation remains to be seen.Reaction

“Is it April 1? I would be very concerned about who was going to pay for it all.”

“The club have invested heavily in the facilities at Headingley and we’re well supported in Yorkshire, so to take matches elsewhere would deny the Yorkshire public.”

“I did the Champion County match in Abu Dhabi and they were great conditions that allowed for good cricket.”

“There could be fan mutiny. The British weather sees to it that cricket is already limited.”

Cost is an issue for the counties, too. But it is understood that the trips could be subsidised by sponsorship and possibly even host tourist boards.Apart from allowing more time for rest, recovery and practice, the longer county season might also bring other benefits. It might, for example, also allow counties to participate in the Champions League – no counties are appearing in the 2013 competition as it clashes with the end of the county season – and it might create room for a second T20 competition, played in a small window in mid-season.The ECB are keen to encourage radical debate on the future of the county game as they seek to improve the standard of cricketers emerging through the system and help the counties gain more financial independence. While many of the proposals are not likely to progress beyond conversation stage, this one – while in an embryonic phase at present – appears viable.

Bresnan upbeat on Ashes fitness

Tim Bresnan has become the third England player in quick succession to insist that he will recover from injury in time for the Ashes series

Tim Bresnan has admitted that he tried to block out his elbow problem for almost a year before he accepted an operation was inevitable•AFP

Tim Bresnan has become the third England player in quick succession to insist that he will recover from injury in time for the Ashes series. Bresnan’s optimism about his recovery from an elbow operation follows equally upbeat assurances from Graeme Swann and Kevin Pietersen with the first Test against Australia now less than 100 days away.Bresnan’s second operation on his right elbow caused him to miss the tour to New Zealand, but he is aiming to play in Yorkshire’s friendly against Lancashire, beginning on April 16, and proving his fitness in championship cricket ahead of the first Test of the summer against New Zealand in mid-May.The latest top international to chat at length on Alison’s Tea Break, soon to be published exclusively on ESPNcricinfo, Bresnan admits he knew that his elbow trouble had left him down on pace for much of the previous year but was reluctant to face the consequences of another operation.”I was lacking a little bit of pace for the last year, which was something I didn’t really want to admit to myself,” he said. “One day I’d bowl brisk, and the next day I’d just have nothing. I knew it was the elbow but you’re in that position ‘I’m still doing a job but am I doing it to the best of my ability?’ And the answer to that question was probably ‘no’.”I’m actually excited now about the future, whereas, because I was bowling in a little bit of pain, it’s always in the back of your mind that you’re not giving it the full beans because it might hurt you.”It took a heart to heart with Graham Gooch in India for Bresnan to realise he had to speak up about his elbow pain, in order to avoid his career flatlining.”You just can’t get away with it against India. Here against the West Indies, absolutely fine, because it’s swinging, bit of reverse, maybe a bit of nibble. In India: nothing. There’s no hiding.”I think the time during the first Test when Sehwag just picked me up off a good length and hit me for six, I just went: ‘Wow, I’m not bowling quick enough here’. I think it was Goochie in a way who just said: ‘Look mate, I can tell you’re not right. I don’t know what you’ve been saying to the medical staff but you should be at a place now where you’re approaching your peak but you’ve just levelled off a bit’.”Now that he’s looking to make a comeback in the England side, Bresnan explains what sort of bowler he wants to be, why he can be more than the dependable workhorse in the side, and what it is that is motivating him.”I’ve only got six or seven five-fors. You never put me down for a truck load of wickets but stick me down for three an innings, which in anyone’s money is solid going. But if I want to be remembered as a cricketer, I was erring towards the stage where I was like, I don’t really want it to be that, I want it to be like: ‘He can win you games’.”Bresnan also takes a tongue-in-cheek ‘Yorkshire Test’ to see just how close to his roots he has remained, despite the global jet-setting life of an international cricketer. The results may be a little surprising.
